A smart business process assessment method for enterprises decision support

The LIST IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) Department's research and technology activities target digital transformations of socio-technical systems. In this context, ITIS Department's activities contribute to the development of smart systems helping organizations to innovate and rapidly analyse, predict and manage the needed transformations and adaptations of their operations. In order to provide organizations with approaches supporting their transformations, a standard-based methodological framework for process assessment named TIPA® has been developed in the past years. The TIPA assessment framework is using existing business and/or standards-based process models and measurement frameworks that are aligned with the international standard on Process Assessment ISO/IEC 15504-33000. However, it suffers a formal method that would support decisions making through a knowledge-based assessment taking into account the specific domain of the assessed enterprise.
The PhD research work relates to the formalisation, development and evaluation of an assessment method that enables enterprises to conduct self-process assessments of their business processes. Three major objectives of the research project are targeted: i) the development of a process assessment ontology using technologies such as OWL, RDF, etc., ii) the formalization and development of a process assessment method for self-evaluation and iii) the validation of the process assessment method with the development of a decision support tool and a real case study.
Expected outcomes:
The expected results will be a decision making tool, promoting a Software-as-A-Service (SaaS) solution for the TIPA assessment framework.
