Investigating the ventral visual stream in temporal lobe epilepsy using a new electrophysiological approach

The ventral visual stream extends from occipital to temporo-basal regions, and specializes in visual recognition of objects and
people, leading to representations stored in memory (through the anterior and medial temporal lobes, ATL and MTL). This research
project aims at clarifying the role of the temporal lobes in the ventral visual stream and at dissociating the functions subtended by
the posterior part of the ventral stream from the ATL and MTL, with a sensitive and objective method : fast visual periodic
stimulation (FPVS) coupled with scalp electroencephalography (EEG). This project will also establish the validity of this
neurophysiological approach in assessing cognitive disorders in temporal lobe epileptic patients before and after surgery.
