4-dimensional numbers to better understand gravitational waves

Quaternions, numbers generalizing complex numbers in dimension 4, allow to build a new method of analysis of the frequency and geometric content of gravitational waves and to reveal the dynamics of coalescing black hole binary. Julien Flamant was interested in this subject during his thesis at the Centre de Recherche en Informatique, Signal et Automatique de Lille (CRIStAL - CNRS/Université de Lille/Ecole Centrale de Lille), for which he was awarded the Signal, Image et Vision 2019 thesis prize.
