Pr. Jorge Villagra  : «Towards safe and human-like decision-making for autonomous vehicles in urban environments »

Intelligent vehicles technology is advancing at a vertiginous pace. However, the complexity behind some highly uncertain and dynamic urban driving scenarios suggest full automation may have usage limits. AUTOPIA Program was created 20 years ago with the intention of mitigating the potential limitations of fully autonomous driving through the use of shared human-machine control and cooperation with other road agents. In this talk, we will provide our vision on the mid and long-term challenges for the massive deployment of autonomous driving systems and some contributions to manage their complexity. More specifically, different research activities focused on embedded decision-making elements will be described, ranging from intention estimation, efficient motion planning and human-machine traded control.
